The Episcopal Church The Episcopal Church (as the Church of England) came to North America with the first English settlers. We trace our history through the Church of England through the reformations of the 16th Century back through the European Catholic Church to the age of the Apostles. We are part of the Anglican Communion and of "the one holy catholic and apostolic church." The word "Episcopal" means "of or pertaining to bishops". Through the record of the ordination process, bishops in the Episcopal Church historically trace their record of succession back to the Apostles. The worship of the Episcopal Church is based on ancient traditional forms, updated to make sense in today's world. This sense of history and of being part of the worldwide church connects us to the proclamation of God's purposes for all of humanity. |
