Episcopal Church of the Advent

Mutual Ministry

Mutual ministry is an exciting concept that supports all members of the congregation in our vocations as ministers. It is based on the idea that in baptism, each member of the church is blessed with unique gifts and called to use them in the ministry of Christ's church. At Advent the vestry and Rector have identified eight distinct areas of ministry. These are Administration, Christian Formation, Congregational Life, Congregational Mission, Evangelism, Pastoral Care, Property and Worship. Two members of the congregation are called to be joint coordinators of each of these eight areas.

Administration

Dave Johnston, Jim Wagner

The Administration Mutual Ministry is the liaison between the Vestry and other Mutual Ministry Coordinators. Communication is a central role for this MM area including maintaining monthly calendar, publishing monthly newsletter, forwarding items to Website monitors and overseeing purchase of office/software needs.

Christian Formation

The Rev. Nathaniel Pyron, Sally Difani

Oversight for Christian formation for all ages at Church of the Advent.

Congregational Life

Janet Johnston, Pam Willis

Responsible for enriching our fellowship and communion with each other.  This includes newcomer welcome and incorporation into church life.

Congregational Mission

Deb Goldfeder

Expressing our gratitude for God’s grace by sharing our gifts with our local, national and global communities.

Evangelism

Richard Glodo, Elaine Naes

Evangelism Mutual Ministry is responsible for increasing community awareness of Advent Church, welcoming newcomers and inviting all to share in and celebrate our Christian journey.

Pastoral Care

(Open)

Through prayer, visitation and Eucharistic visitation, extending the life of the congregation beyond the doors of Advent.

Property

Don Mazdra, Mark Naes

Maintenance of building and grounds, management of contracts, planning for improvements and updates. Obtaining bids for approved projects.

Worship

Nancy Kroes, Jim Wagner

The Worship Mutual Ministry is responsible, with the Rector, for Church liturgy.  This includes: planning and preparation for worship, written word, music, vestments, use of space to include weddings and unions.  This Mutual Ministry area will always have the Rector as a member.
